Baltimore, Maryland— The body of Branson Oduor, a 27-year-old Kenyan national who had been missing for nearly two weeks, was recovered from Baltimore’s Inner Harbor on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.

Oduor, who worked as an accountant for a commercial real estate developer, was last seen in the early morning hours of Saturday, April 4, 2026, in Baltimore’s Fells Point neighborhood. He had been out celebrating March Madness with friends earlier that evening before heading alone to The Horse You Came In On Saloon bar.

Surveillance footage showed him being escorted out of the bar around closing time, appearing unsteady on his feet. A bystander reportedly offered him an Uber ride, which he declined. Additional video later captured him in the Harbor East area around 4 a.m.

His girlfriend, Emily Costa, with whom he had been in a relationship for about 1.5 years, became concerned after he stopped responding to messages. His last text to her was sent around 11:18 p.m. on April 3. She requested a wellness check and formally reported him missing on Sunday, April 5.

Oduor’s electric bicycle, equipped with an AirTag, was later found abandoned in the area. His family, including his mother Millicent Oduor (also referred to as Millicent Obongo), described him as responsible and outgoing, noting that going missing was completely out of character. His father traveled from Kenya to assist in the search efforts.

On Tuesday morning, around 8:10 a.m., authorities recovered a body from the water in the 500 block of East Pratt Street, near the National Aquarium. The body was positively identified as Branson Oduor.

According to Baltimore Police, Oduor’s body showed signs of trauma believed to be consistent with injuries from falling off his bicycle. At this time, foul play is not suspected. His remains were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the official cause of death. The investigation remains ongoing.

Emily Costa issued a statement saying: “He was loved by a large community and will be greatly missed.”

Community members and the Kenyan diaspora have expressed shock and sadness over the loss. Many described Oduor as a kind, ambitious young man who had recently started a new job in Baltimore and was excited about his future. He had also been active in running, having participated in the Baltimore Half Marathon in 2025.

Oduor had moved to the United States some years ago and was living in the Ridgely’s Delight / Pigtown area. Friends and family have urged anyone with additional information or video footage from the night of April 3–4 to contact Baltimore Police.

This heartbreaking case has highlighted the dangers of walking alone late at night near waterfront areas, especially after consuming alcohol. Many locals have noted that Oduor reportedly could not swim.

As the family prepares to lay him to rest, thoughts and condolences continue to pour in from Baltimore’s tight-knit communities and back home in Kenya.
