Two Former Employees Charged Over KSh 18.4M Phone Theft in Nairobi
NAIROBI, Kenya — Two former employees of Redmitech EA Limited, an electronics shop located in Nairobi’s Central Business District, have been arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts over the alleged theft of mobile phones worth KSh 18.4 million.
The suspects were identified as:
Phyllis Muthoni Karanja, a former warehouse manager at the company
Ann Mbura Ng’ang’a, a former accountant
Both women face charges of stealing. In addition, Ann Mbura Ng’ang’a is facing a second charge of fraudulent false accounting, after allegedly falsifying financial records to conceal the theft.
According to court documents, the alleged crimes took place between June 1, 2024, and November 24, 2025.
During this period, the two are accused of unlawfully taking mobile phones valued at approximately KSh 18,409,160 from their employer. Investigators believe the losses were systematically concealed through manipulated financial records.
The case was heard before Principal Magistrate Geoffrey Onsaringo, where both accused persons pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Their defense lawyer told the court that the two women had cooperated fully with investigators and had voluntarily surrendered to authorities after learning they were wanted in connection with the case.
Bail and Bond Terms
The court granted each accused:
A bond of KSh 2 million, or
An alternative cash bail of KSh 400,000
They are also required to provide two sureties each.
The case is scheduled for mention on April 28, 2026, as investigations and pre-trial procedures continue.
