Detectives in Kiambu County have arrested two suspects linked to the shocking abduction and murder of a nine-year-old boy in Githunguri, in a case that has left residents reeling in grief and outrage.
The suspects, identified as 32-year-old James Ngigi Ngendo and 75-year-old James Mburi Chichu, are currently in police custody following a swift operation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
A Mother’s Worst Fear
The tragic incident began when the boy’s mother left him at home under the care of his grandfather and sister while attending a family function in Kipipiri.
Moments later, her world came crashing down after she received a distressing phone call. The caller, later identified as Ngendo, claimed to have abducted her son and demanded a ransom of KSh 150,000 in exchange for his release.
Swift DCI Operation
Following the report, detectives launched an immediate manhunt that led them to Ruiru, where the first suspect was tracked down and arrested in the Gitothua area.
Under interrogation, the suspect reportedly led officers back to Githunguri, where his alleged accomplice was also apprehended.
Grim Discovery
The investigation took a devastating turn when detectives searched a residence linked to the main suspect. The body of the young boy, identified as Leon Ng’ang’a, was discovered concealed on a rooftop inside a manila bag and hidden under clothes.
Crime scene investigators processed the area before the body was moved to Mukoe Funeral Home for a post-mortem examination.
Community in Mourning
The incident has sent shockwaves across Kiambu County, with residents expressing deep sorrow and anger over the brutal killing.
The DCI has assured the public of its commitment to ensuring justice is served, especially in cases involving crimes against children. The two suspects are being held for 10 days as detectives finalize investigations ahead of a murder trial.
