Kiambu murders: Lawrence Warunge pleads not guilty

The main suspect in the Kiambu murders that shocked the nation Lawrence Warunge has today pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Warunge an IT student has been charged with five accounts of murder.

While appearing before Lady Justice Mary Kasango, warunge denied killing his father Nicholas Warunge, mother Anne Warunge, brother Christian Njenga, nephew Maxwell Njenga and a worker identified as James Kinyajui.

The killings took place in January this year.

The 22 year old has been remanded in Nairobi’s Industrial Area Prison pending pre-trial hearing set for May 11 this year.

On Tuesday, Warunge was confirmed fit to stand trial.

This follows a psychiatric report released by Mathari Mental Hospital, confirming that the 22-year-old can now answer to his crimes.

Warunge had after his arrest told homicide detectives that he was inspired by a movie series ‘Killing Eve’ to end the lives of the five.

The 22-year-old Lawrence Warunge confessed that he chose to eliminate the four members of his nuclear family because they were talking ill of him behind his back.

He told detectives that he has initially planned to kill everyone including his two surviving sisters who are in school, but his plans were foiled when the two returned to school on December 5.
