Jua Cali quits music after 20 years in the industry

Genge artiste Jua Cali, whose official name is Paul Julius Nunda is quitting music after twenty years in the industry.

The star announced the sad news via his Instagram handle.

“Sadly Iam Hanging the Mic today. 20years is enough. On to New and better things. #sadday.” read the caption he posted.

Many believed the ravaging effects of the Covid 19 pandemic could be the reason why Jua Cali is throwing in the towel.

The entertainment industry has been hit hard by the pandemic.

On Friday last week, President Uhuru Kenyatta ordered the cessation of all movement into and out of the capital Nairobi and four other counties following a surge in the number of Covid-19 cases.

The president also ordered a revision of curfew hours for the five counties from 8pm-4am.

The singer was born in Nairobi’s Eastlands in a family where both parents were teachers.

In 2000 alongside producer Clemo, he founded Calif Records where he has been ever since.

Jua Cali performs in Swahili and Sheng in a popular Kenyan style of rapping called Genge.

He has recently come under fire after he joined the riding wave of Gengetone.

Most of his colleagues in the industry who’ve been around for a while believe he shouldn’t be part and parcel of the wave.
