Radio Africa to sue Shaffie Weru for breach of contract

Radio Africa has now threatened to countersue Shaffie Weru for breach of contract and negligence, the media company is demanding Ksh 150 million from Weru.

This follows Shaffie’s decision to sue the company if he’s not paid Ksh 21 Million.

“Further without basing your findings on any investigations whatsoever, and solely basing a purported decision on social media investigators jury, you concluded that our client was guilty of gross misconduct for purportedly making insensitive comments on the 24th March 2021.” Reads part of the letter from his lawyers to the media comapny .

Shaffie Weru, DJ Joe Mfalme and Neville Musya were fired by Homeboyz radio last Saturday.

Shaffie Weru demands Ksh 21 million from Radio Africa

In a statement, Homeboyz said that the three were let go over gross misconduct and going against the companies editorial policies, over their insensitive remarks on a woman who was thrown off the 12th floor of a building by man after refusing his sexual advances.

“We have determined that their conduct constitutes gross misconduct and an egregious breach of the company’s editorial policies. The company and its subsidiaries do not condone gender-based violence or any form of physical, verbal and emotional abuse nor does it subscribe to the view shared by the three employees.” Read part of the circular as seen on social media sites.

In its case against the controversial radio presenter, Radio Africa and HomeBoyz radio now want the court to compel him to pay for damages amounting to Ksh 150 million.

Shaffie Weru, Radio Africa has vowed to countersue him.

This according to the company is for the loss of business and reputational damage of the company’s brands.

The company said it would robustly defend any claims made by Shaffie.
