Velvine Nungari murder suspect released on bail

Joseph Kinyua Murimi, the main suspect in the murder of Velvine Nungari Kinyanjui has been freed on a cash bail of Ksh.200,000.

Chief Magistrate directed the suspect to be reporting to Kiamumbi police station every Thursday.

The case will be mentioned on April 29 2020.

Murimi had told detectives that he met Velvine at Destiny Park in Ruiru where the deceased used to work and asked her for a date on which she agreed.

Two days later they would meet at Kirigiti where they went to Q west restaurant based in Kahawa West for some drinks.

They moved to Kijito restaurant and later to Sinnot where they booked a room.

CCTV footage caught the two at the reception with Nungari visibly drunk.

Murimi would later leave Nungari in the room after sometime.

An attendant who ushered him told detectives investigating the case that Murimi told him he couldn’t spend the night at the place because he was a married man.

He is said to have driven to his home leaving with Velvine’s phone.

The following, the deceased called her friend requesting her to tag along another person so they could take her to the hospital.

She was taken to Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital where she passed on few days later.
