“Mr President, you and your fellow politicians are to blame for this devastating third wave, the buck stops with you.” He said.

He added that it was unfortunate as the measures put in place were only meant to make the hoi polloi suffer at the expense of the political class who continue living lavishly.

On Friday last week, President Uhuru Kenyatta ordered the cessation of all movement into and out of the capital Nairobi and four other counties following a surge in the number of Covid-19 cases.

The other affected counties include Kajiado, Machakos, Kiambu and Nakuru.

He suspended church gatherings in the affected counties too.

The president also ordered a revision of curfew hours for the five counties from 8pm-4am.

The rest of the country will continue observing the 10pm to 4am timing.

He also ordered the closure of schools and universities, with the exception of students undergoing examinations.

Bars and all liquor joints have also been shut down in the presidential directive that is set to take a toll on an industry that has been struggling to regain its footing since the start of the phased re-opening of the economy in July last year.

“Similarly, the sale of alcohol in eateries in the five counties is prohibited until further notice,” Mr Kenyatta said.

Kenya is grappling with a third wave of coronavirus infections with health facilities stretched to capacities as hospital admissions increase by 52 per cent in the past 12 days.
