In December last year, KANU boss Gideon Moi hinted at forming an alliance with other like minded individuals towards winning power in 2022. He described it as big ‘bullet’ coalition.

The Baringo senator said that ongoing talks would ensure the country’s six bigwigs forge a strong vehicle to produce the fifth president, succeeding Uhuru Kenya.

Gideon, the scion of former President Daniel Moi, said the team to be birthed after the Building Bridges Initiative referendum will travel the rest of the journey to the August 22 General Election.

“We have a journey. The first journey is to ensure BBI is passed and support President Uhuru Kenyatta,” Gideon told a gathering of KANU members in Samburu in December last year.

He said they were friends with ODM chief Raila Odinga, ANC’s Musalia Mudavadi, Wiper’s Kalonzo Musyoka, Ford Kenya’s Moses Wetang’ula and Council of Governors chairman Wycliffe Oparanya of Kakamega.

Fast forward to the Kabuchai and Matungu by-elections, Gideon Kalonzo Mudavadi and Wetangula hinted at forming a coalition.

The leaders said they will provide a third alternative in a contest that has all along been perceived as a two-horse race between Deputy President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Mudavadi, on his part, said: “Mtuone hivi, tutashikana vile tumesimama.

The four leaders, drumming up support for the referendum push spearheaded by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his handshake partner Raila Odinga, are now eliciting questions on whether their partnership is another political pawn arising.

Pundits believe the new alliance could be having the blessing of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
