Economist David Ndii bashed for ethnic stereotyping

Economist David Ndii is under fire following a tweet that was ethnically stereotyping the Luo community.

Kenyans on Twitter has castigated the economist over what they termed as his unending attacks on the Luo community.

It all started when a Twitter user @nudih while applauding Narok county for passing the BBI constitutional Bill.

“So Narok county predominantly Luo has approved the BBI referendum bill. Where is
@DavidNdii” he tweeted.

Ndii in a rejoinder tweeted; “There are many communities that don’t practice circumcision in Kenya, but have you asked yourself why you are the only ones we call ihîî?” He tweeted.

The tweet has sparked quite some reactions on Twitter.

David Ndii (born in Kiambu, Kenya) is an economist, columnist and author.

The Telegraph has described him as “one of Africa’s best known economists and an outspoken anti-corruption crusader”.

He was a Rhodes scholar at Oxford University.

For several years, he was chief strategist of the National Super Alliance.

In recent years he has been an open critic of the economic policy of the Uhuru Kenyatta administration, writing several open letters and tweets criticizing the government’s economic policies and borrowing of loans.

This, among other things, led to him being barred from accessing the Technical University of Mombasa for “security reasons”
