The Jubilee party has stripped off the senate’s majority whip position from Irungu Kang’ata  and his place taken by his Kiambu county counterpart Kimani wamatangi.

Kang’ata and his supporters, mostly senators allied to Deputy President William Ruto walked out of the meeting decrying the move by the party leadership.

Kang’ata has slammed the Building Bridges and its proponents asking them not to use it to divide the people.

“All senators who have spoken in that meeting have supported me. We should not use BBI to divide our people. I am now noticing that this problem seems to have started after handshake, now imagine the guy of handshake becoming the president of this country.” He told members of the press.

The Murang’a senator’s woes started when he wrote a letter to President Kenyatta about the unpopularity of BBI in the Mount Kenya region.

In the letter, the senator stated that the BBI referendum might fail in Mt Kenya unless President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM boss Raila Odinga change their strategy.

“Let us emphasize on the soft power and art of persuasion. In my humble view, the provincial administration in BBI process should be invisible,” he told Kenyatta.

He cited opposition to the expanded Executive, the involvement of provincial administration and campaigns by former MPs as some of the issues working against the initiative.
