“I still laugh at your attempts to escape our selfies” Read Wambui Collymore’s Twitter message as she celebrated the birthday of her departed husband Bob Collymore.

The late Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore would have been celebrating his 63rd birthday yesterday January 13, 2020.

The couple got married in April 2016 and stayed together until Collymore lost a long battle with blood cancer on the morning of July 1, 2019.

Collymore met Wambui in Nairobi during a fundraiser for survivors of the Loreto Convent Msongari school bus crash that occurred in July 2011.

Wambui was part of the event in her capacity as an alumnus and Collymore was there representing Safaricom Foundation with fundraising.

Wambui is the Founder of The Art Space. An independent commercial art gallery situated on Riverside Drive in Nairobi.

It was founded in October 2015.

Before founding The Art Space she was an artist at Kuona Trust between January 2010 – October 2015.

Wambui Wamae Kamiru was initially married to Joseph Kinyua in 2007.

They were blessed with two lovely twin girls. In 2011 her marriage took a different twist after she met Safaricom CEO, Bob Collymore.

Before he married Wambui Kamiru in April 2016, former Safaricom Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Bob Collymore had been in two other marriages.

According to him, his first marriage broke because of a ‘mistake’, one he never well explained how.

Wambui Collymore’s heartfelt message to the late Bob proves how tight the couple was.

“The first marriage was a mistake for sure. I was too young — in my 20s,” the former corporate guru said in an interview with Daily Nation in August 2018.

After his first marriage fell apart, Collymore accepted and moved on. Within a couple of years, he found another lover, who he identified as Clare, and he took her in as a wife.

The couple was blessed with two kids but as fate would have it, the marriage did not work. Collymore and Claire had to divorce.

“The second one was not a mistake, what was a mistake was how we conducted it,” he said of the marriage which was officially dissolved by a UK court in 2012.

However, even after their divorce, Collymore and Clare, a cancer survivor, remained as friends and when he was in the London hospital, she could visit and help him in overcoming effects of chemotherapy.
