Maraga retires, DCJ Mwilu takes over in acting capacity (watch)

David Maraga has officially retired as the 15th Chief Justice of the Republic of Kenya, DCJ Mwilu has taken over in acting capacity.

Maraga was born in Bonyamatuta, Nyamira county  on 12 January 1951.

He studied law at the University of Nairobi and was awarded a Bachelors of law in 1977.

He obtained a Maters of law from the University of Nairobi in 2011.

He also holds a post-graduate diploma awarded in 1978 by the Kenya School of law.

The CJ started his law practice in Nakuru county where he was appointed a judge of the Nakuru High Court before relocating to Nairobi after 25 years of practice.

He later rose through the ranks to be appointed the President of the Supreme Court becoming the second Chief justice during the new constitutional dispensation.

The landmark of his career was when he nullified the 2017 Presidential election something that earned him friends and foes in equal measure.
