Ken Walibora dies in a grisly road accident on Landies Road – Nairobi.

Ken Walibora is a legendary Swahili author and former NTV presenter.

The 56-year-old passed away on Friday, April 10.

According to report published on NTV website, Ken Walibora’s body was found at Kenyatta National Hospital Mortuary

History

Ken Walibora was born on Jan 6, 1964 in Baraki village, Bungoma County. His family later moved to Kitale and then Cherangany shaping up his idea for Siku Njema set book.

The intellectual has authored number popular books. Among the most famous of these are Ndoto ya Amerika, Siku Njema, Kidagaa Kimemwozea, Kufa Kuzikana, Tuzo, Ndoto ya Almasi and Damu Nyeusi which was co-edited with Said A. Mohamed

Profession

Other than authoring of books and anchoring news, Ken Walibora was a lecturer of Swahili in the US. Being a teacher by profession, he taught Swahili in high school between 1985 and 1986. Later, he worked as a probation officer at the Ministry of Home Affairs between 1988 and 1996.

In 1996, He joined Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) as a Swahili radio news anchor, editor and translator.

Walibora later moved to the Nation Media Group in 1999, where he worked as an anchor for 6 years.

“In 2005, he graduated as a teaching associate at the Ohio State University, US, and became an associate professor in the Department of African Languages and Literature at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, US, on August 24, 2009. ”

Walibora also reviewed and translated several books. In 2003, he translated Kenya’s draft constitution serialised in the Kiswahili language daily newspaper Taifa Leo.
