Officer Killed by Motorist while Manning Curfew Roadblock

Nakuru — A police officer was killed on the spot after being ran into by a motorist while manning a curfew roadblock.

According to a report published on Daily Nation the officer was manning the curfew roadblock at Salgaa along Nakuru-Eldoret highway.

The motorist was trying to beat the curfew when he killed the officer on the spot.

Nakuru police commander confirmed the incident disclosing that the officer was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.

“The vehicle was coming from Nakuru when the accident occurred,’’ stated the officer.

The county commander further stated that the motorist was arrested before being released on bail after recording a statement.

“He was released because he could not be detained at the police station due to the measures aimed at containing the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. He is waiting to be arraigned,’’ noted the officer.

The officer’s body was taken to mortuary awaiting postmortem.

Since president Uhuru Kenyatta ordered for curfew, this is the second case of a police officer being killed by a motorist.

Constable George Aluoch was killed in a grisly accident at Mombasa Container Terminal Limited (MCT) area along Port Reitz Road in Mombasa County.

The constable was escorting a driver to changamwe police station for a traffic offence when the driver rammed into the rear of a stationary truck from the passengers’ side killing the officer instantly.
