BBI supporters verification exercise launched by IEBC at Bomas

The Building Bridges Initiative(BBI) supporters verification exercise has been launched at Bomas of Kenya by the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission(IEBC).

This comes three weeks after the Building Bridges Initiative Secretariat presented the BBI Referendum Bill and signatures to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.

The bill plus the signatures were delivered to the commission by the secretariat co-chairs Hon Junet Mohamed and former MP Dennis Waweru.

IEBC boss Wafula Chebukati received the documents.

The National Treasury has already approved Sh93.7 million funding to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission for the verification of BBI signatures.

The Commission had sought for Sh241 million from the exchequer to review the signatures presented by the BBI Secretariat by the sh 93.7 million by arrived at after deliberations between the ministry and the commission.

A total of 400 clerks were recruited for the exercise.

The 400 have taken their oath of secrecy and will begin their training shortly.
