Lawyer Cliff Ombeta tests positive for Covid-19, forces court to adjourn Willie Kimani murder case

A court sitting in Nairobi was today adjourned after controversial lawyer Cliff Ombeta reportedly tested positive for Covid-19.

Ombeta is representing Fredrick Leliman and Stephen Cheburet, who are the first and second accused persons in the Willie Kimani murder case.

In the case, four Administration Police officers Fredrick Leliman, Sylvia Wanjiru, Leonard Mwangi and Stephen Cheburet alongside police informer Ngugi were charged with the murder of lawyer Willie Kimani, his client Josephat Mwenda and driver Joseph Muiruri.

On June 30 2016, Mr. Willie Kimani, lawyer at the NGO International Justice Mission,Josphat Mwendwa, one of Mr. Kimani’s client and their taxi driver were found dead on the bank of a river 73 km north-east of Nairobi.

Ombeta is currently admitted at a hospital and has been directed by Judge Jessie Lessit to send his official Covid-19 test results to the court on Tuesday for verification.
