Tourism sector to suffer losses amounting to over Sh.72 billion due to Covid-19 pandemic

The Tourism sector is set to lose 72Billion due to the effects of Covid-19 pandemic.

This is as a result of closing of most Local and  International boarders to combat coronavirus.

According to the National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani, the most affected will be hotels with 56billion worth of losses.

Catering and other associated  losses are estimated at 16.2 billion which include parks, restaurants, tours and travel.

Many staff are likely to be sent home while some may have to receive pay cuts.

Research by the Ministry of Wildlife estimates that the Tourism industry is likely to lose $511million hotel revenue, $125millionin in associated revenue and Sh2.5 Billion for catering Levy.
